Get ready for the future
The THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot is a research project to test the potential safety, mobility and environmental benefits of connected vehicle technology. Over 1000 participating drivers have had equipment installed in their cars that can “talk” to other equipped cars to help prevent crashes. When in the downtown deployment area, their cars also communicate with signals, crosswalks and more to enhance safety and keep traffic moving. For taking part, all participating drivers receive a 50% toll rebate for travel on the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, up to a maximum of $550 over the course of the study. Additionally, participants have the option to keep the CV tech they are testing once the study is complete, setting the stage for Tampa to become one of the nation’s first connected cities. If you missed out on participating, or live outside of the Tampa Bay area, don’t worry! You can still join the fun and stay in the know by becoming a fan of the THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot.
