Preparing for Your Appointment

The first steps to participating in the THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot are to take the eligibility questionnaire and schedule your installation appointment. Done? Great! Here’s how to make your installation as smooth as possible.

Make room in your schedule. If you plan to wait, most appointments take 2–3 hours. If you are dropping off your vehicle, you can expect to spend about 30 minutes at the facility for registration and training. We’ll call or text you when your vehicle is ready.

Gather your documents and bring them with you. We cannot install your equipment without the following documents:

  • Florida driver’s license
  • Vehicle registration
  • Proof of car insurance (name of insured must match registration)
  • SunPass account number (for toll rebate)
  • SunPass transponder number (for toll rebate)

Know what to expect. Learn about the equipment that will be installed in and on your vehicle, including antennas, a short-range radio and a new rearview mirror. If you do not wish to have this equipment installed, please notify us immediately at 813.280.3405 to cancel your appointment.

Read the Informed Consent Document. You will be asked to sign the Informed Consent Document before we install your equipment, so please take time to familiarize yourself with it before you arrive.

Empty your vehicle of all items prior to arrival. Technicians will need access to the entire interior and trunk to install your equipment. Please remove all child safety seats and clean out any trash. If your vehicle is a pickup truck, remove any bed cover or cap.

Know where you’re going. The installation facility is located at the Hillsborough Community College Ybor Campus Training Center, 5610 E Columbus Drive, Tampa, FL 33619. View the map for detailed directions.

Make sure your vehicle is eligible. We cannot install equipment on the following vehicles:

  • Convertibles
  • Jeep Wranglers
  • Mini Coopers
  • Nissan Cubes
  • Pickup trucks with a bed cover or cap
  • Vehicles with a glass roof
  • Vehicles with a roof-mounted rearview mirror
  • Vehicles with an airbag indicator in rearview mirror
  • Vehicles with a rain sensor in rearview mirror
  • Vehicles with a rearview camera display in rearview mirror
  • Vehicles with a combination of auto-dimming side mirrors and auto-dimming rearview mirror

Arrive on time and in person. A family member cannot register for you.
