Software Update Released

Software Update Released to car driving by

Over-the-air software updates are currently broadcasting from roadside units along the Selmon Expressway’s Reversible Express Lanes and in the downtown Tampa deployment area. When a software update is available, your equipment will download it wirelessly as you drive by. When the download is complete, your unit will update automatically.

Over 300 participants have already downloaded this initial update. This update will prepare all units to receive active alerts in the near future. Once updated, you may notice the version number that appears on your mirror at startup has changed. If you do not see the change immediately, don’t worry! It may take your vehicle several passes to receive the necessary information. As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions at hello@tampacvpilot.com.

Hillsborough Community College Trains Technology Workforce

Hillsborough Community College Trains Technology Workforce

Connected vehicle (CV) technology has the potential to make transportation safer, not only in Tampa but around the world, and to realize that potential, the automotive industry needs workers who can install and maintain the required equipment.

Hillsborough Community College (HCC), which offers three post-secondary vocational automotive programs at its Ybor Training Center, is taking the initiative to build that workforce.  As a partner with the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority on the CV Pilot, HCC provided access to its facilities for installations, and to its automotive student body for the necessary labor.

In total, ten students worked as paid interns throughout the 1,000+ installations of onboard units in participant vehicles, filling their graduation practicum requirement in the process. These students experienced new technology firsthand under the direction of professional installers from Brandmotion, the CV Pilot’s vehicle integration lead. Two of these students have been hired full-time by Brandmotion and will be joining future CV projects, bringing their new skills to the Tampa Bay workforce and beyond.

Positioning Your SunPass Transponder

How to position Your SunPass Transponder

SunPass transponders communicate with toll plaza equipment to collect tolls electronically. As your vehicle passes through SunPass equipped lanes, the tolls are deducted from your prepaid account. For this process to work correctly, your transponder must be located by your rearview mirror, near the top of the windshield. As a THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot participant, a properly placed transponder helps to ensure you receive a rebate for every eligible transaction. For more information on transponder installation, including steps for your specific make and model, visit sunpass.com/en/about/sunpassTransponders.shtml.
