Software Update Ahead

Go Tampa Driving Innovation

Like most computers, your connected vehicle equipment needs a software update from time to time. Fortunately, the THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot team has been working hard to make the process as seamless as possible.

When a software update is available, your equipment will download it wirelessly as you drive on the Selmon Expressway’s Reversible Express Lanes or in the downtown Tampa deployment area. When the over-the-air download is complete, your unit will update automatically.

The next software download is scheduled to begin at the end of February and will continue for several weeks to ensure all participants can receive it. This update will prepare all units to receive active alerts in the near future. Once updated, you may notice the version number that appears on your mirror at startup has changed. If you do not see the change immediately, don’t worry! It may take your vehicle several passes to receive the necessary information. As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions at hello@tampacvpilot.com.

Test Provides Watershed Moment

Tampa Street Car in Testing Phase

When vehicles can talk to each other, the potential safety benefits are incredible. During a recent closed-circuit test involving nine connected vehicles on the Selmon Expressway’s Reversible Express Lanes, every driver received a potentially life-saving alert when the driver of the lead vehicle slammed on the brakes. The successful test was a watershed moment for the THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot, offering critical insight into how this innovative technology can improve safety conditions for Tampa drivers. Toll Rebate Reminder

For taking part in the THEA Connected Vehicle Pilot, all participants are entitled to a 50 percent toll rebate on specific sections of the Selmon Expressway, up to a total maximum of $550. Rebates are applied directly to your SunPass account for your vehicle’s travel through any of the four locations in the map shown here. For instructions on how to view these rebates, please see our Toll Rebate Handout.

Your SunPass account is credited each month for the previous month’s toll activity, retroactive to your installation date. Common reasons for missing credits include broken transponders, negative SunPass balances or changes to account details, such as the account name or the vehicle’s license plate. If you have updated SunPass account information to provide us, please email us at info@tampacvpilot.com.
